Ian began his career in cyber security in the US Air Force as a communications and information systems officer. At the Air Force Information Warfare Center, Ian learned military doctrine as it applies to the cyber domain and how to apply the latest technologies to the defense of USAF computer networks. After leaving the Air Force in 2003, Ian transitioned to the computer forensics field, assisting with investigation of digital media recovered from military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. During this time Ian also conducted penetration tests and learned how to emulate an attacker, exploit vulnerabilities to highlight risk to clients, and close down weaknesses that could be exploited by attackers. Currently Ian works as a malware analyst and reverse engineer, extracting capabilities and indicators from malware deployed by threat actors targeting client computer networks. Ian has a Master’s degree in Information Systems Technology from The George Washington University and has earned the CISSP, GCFA, and OSCP certifications.
